“My brother Kevin Petty created a transitional home for returning citizens (formerly incarcerated persons) titled the Philemon Mission Transitional Facilities (PMTF), which is a peer run organization. When Kevin asked me to join his organization my first priority was to establish electronic record keeping procedures. However, PMTF did not have the budget to hire a database administrator. I turned to my daughter Denielle Petty for assistance.
Denielle created an excel spreadsheet that enabled the staff to track the pertinent information for all residents. The spreadsheet was designed to color/highlight the cells with the information required to maintain compliance with the contracting officer’s timeline. Denielle utilized Microsoft OneDrive to enable staff to view and share information. Safeguards/filters were added to ensure that only to appropriate personnel could view and edit records, and to ensure that PMTF was in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, while also maintaining the highest ethical standards as dictated by state and federal regulation.
Denielle streamlined the organization’s website and budget. In addition, Denielle trained individuals whose technological literacy was nominal at best to view, edit, and share records as required. With Denielle’s assistance, the PMTF staff appeared to transition from using an abacus to utilizing a computer with a high-speed processor. The PMTF is now more efficient and effective regarding serving the clients and maintaining electronic record keeping that place us head and shoulders above the competition.”
